Wellola’s Portasana® Platform Now Integrates with the NHS App: Unlocking New Value for Acute, Community and Mental Health Trusts

We’re proud to share that Wellola’s Portasana® Patient Care and Communications Platform is now an official NHS App integration partner. This milestone isn’t just a technical win for our clients—it represents meaningful progress towards a more connected, accessible and patient-centred NHS for our partners across acute, community and mental health services.

With over 33 million users, the NHS App has become a trusted gateway to NHS services. From booking appointments and managing prescriptions to viewing health records, test results and receiving provider messages, it empowers patients to manage their healthcare conveniently from their smartphone or tablet. As a result, it has proven to be a significant driver of operational efficiency and patient satisfaction across the system.

Now integrating with the NHS App, Portasana® makes it possible for more Trusts—particularly in community and mental health settings—to offer a digital front door that matches the experience available in acute care. This supports more equitable access to high-quality, modern healthcare for all patients, regardless of where they receive care.

Portasana®’s unique value lies in its adaptability, robust functionality, and foundation in real-world clinical workflows. Designed in collaboration with healthcare professionals, it enables Trusts to:

  • Deploy and scale digital care rapidly across diverse populations

  • Integrate with existing EPRs and platforms like the NHS App

  • Customise modules to suit different care pathways and clinical teams

  • Facilitate secure messaging, digital triage, appointment self-scheduling, PROMS collection and virtual consultations

  • Deliver inclusive, accessible experiences through multi-language support and user-friendly design

Crucially, Portasana® spans the entire patient journey—from referral and triage through treatment, discharge, and long-term self-management. Its low training burden and proven interoperability allow Trusts to activate value quickly, helping to improve outcomes while relieving pressure on staff.

This is especially important in the context of the NHS’s Reforming Elective Care for Patients strategy, which aims to ensure 92% of patients begin treatment within 18 weeks by March 2029. Portasana® directly supports this ambition by streamlining patient pathways, enabling self-service, and optimising clinic capacity. It fosters proactive, patient-led engagement, which reduces wait times and improves flow through outpatient and elective services—core tenets of the national reform.

One of Portasana®’s most impactful tools is its Digital Care Pathways module. This feature allows Trusts to deliver structured, personalised and clinically governed care at scale. From long-term condition management and mental health support to peri-operative pathways, the module supports entire care journeys—including education, PROMs, nudges, virtual touchpoints and tailored content. This not only supports early intervention and reduces unnecessary appointments but ensures clinicians are focused where they’re needed most. By digitising best practice workflows, Portasana® enables scalable, efficient, and equitable service delivery.

The NHS strategy also highlights the need to deliver care in the most appropriate setting and reduce unnecessary in-person visits. Portasana® answers this call by enabling virtual-first outpatient models, proactive remote management and care delivery closer to home—particularly valuable for community and mental health services seeking to modernise sustainably.

While listed integrations with the NHS App are an important foundation, national coverage depends on active adoption by individual NHS organisations. That’s why Wellola work closely with our partners to implement these integrations meaningfully—ensuring they’re not only available, but effectively embedded into operational practice and patient engagement.

At Wellola, we’re proud to support NHS Trusts in building inclusive, digitally enabled services. With Portasana® now integrating with the NHS App, we’re helping unlock the next chapter in high-quality, joined-up care—across all parts of the system.
